Harrisburg University of Science and Technology - Online Master of Science in Analytics Program
Harrisburg University of Science and Technology offers an online Master of Science in Analytics degree that focuses on the science, technology, and business applications of data mining and analysis. Students learn to use predictive, descriptive, and prescriptive modeling techniques to draw conclusions and inform organizational decision making in the data-intensive business world. This is a 36-credit degree program that is designed to be completed by part-time students in two years, or six semesters. The program can be taken 100% online, but students have the option of attending monthly on-campus weekend sessions in some courses. There are no required campus visits.
Harrisburg University employs an Executive Format for professional graduate degrees like the MS in Analytics, coupling the convenience of online learning with the option of attending in-person, on-campus class meetings one weekend per month. This campus-based programming is not mandatory, and is meant to complement the weekly online class sessions. The online courses are conducted synchronously, which means students are required to be present online at designated times for live lectures, presentations, and discussions.
The curriculum for the MS in Analytics was designed in partnership with the school’s Employer Advisory Board, a group made up of industry leaders in the fields of data science, information technology, and business management. Students must take five core analytics courses: Analytics I: Principles and Applications; Modeling, Simulation and Gamification; Analytics II: Principles and Applications; Risk Modeling and Assessment; and Data Mining and Engineering. There is also a required experiential learning component, which gives students the option of taking a course in Research Methodology and Writing and then completing an Applied Project in Analytics, or completing a Graduate Thesis in an approved subject area.
The program’s remaining credits are available through elective coursework. These classes target specific analytics proficiencies, including: Strategic Information Systems Planning, Engineering & Management; Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) Principles; User-Centered Design; Business Process Modeling and Workflow Systems; Health Informatics and Information Systems; Business Intelligence and Decision Support Systems; Digital and Global Organizations; and Allied Statistical Methods.
Harrisburg University of Science and Technology is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education.
