Regis University - Online Master of Science in Data Science Program
The College of Computer & Information Sciences at Regis University offers a Master of Science in Data Science program that targets the theoretical and practical applications of computer-based data mining, data engineering, and data analysis. Regis’ Data Science program puts a unique emphasis not only on the technology and techniques used by data scientists in the business world, but also on the ethics and social responsibility of data collection and data-driven decision-making. This is a 36-credit professional degree that can be completed in two years by students who are enrolled part-time. It is 100% online and does not require any campus visits.
Regis University’s World Campus initiative for distance learning, and the school’s WorldClass platform for managing online courses and degree programs, supports asynchronous instruction while giving students access to an array of library and academic supports services. Courses are not self-paced, but the school’s online learning platform allows students to access video lectures and other course materials on-demand, 24/7. Exams and other graded work must be completed by specific deadlines, which can be done in a way that conforms to student’s scheduling needs.
The Master of Science in Data Science curriculum is built on a foundation of six core courses that cover key topics and proficiencies in data science. These courses include an Introduction to Data Science, as well as the following courses: Data Engineering; Ethics, Privacy and Social Justice in Data Science; Data Analytics; Statistical Methods and Experimental Design; and Information Technology Research Methods. Students must then choose four additional courses from among an array of electives in the field of Data Science, including: Data Collection and Preparation; Big Data Design Patterns; Exploratory Data Analysis; Statistical Inference and Predictive Analytics; Visualization Using Open Source Tools; Machine Learning; Text Analytics; and Optimal Decision Making. The six remaining credits needed for graduation are taken in the form of two Data Science Practicums that give students the opportunity to apply what they have learned through internships and data science research projects.
Regis University is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission.
