University of Delaware - Online Master of Science in Cybersecurity
The University of Delaware Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering through the School of Engineering offers an online Master of Science in Cybersecurity. This program is a part of the University of Delaware Cybersecurity Initiative (UD CSI) which seeks to establish the university as a center of excellence in cybersecurity in partnership with local, state, and federal entities. In addition, UD is designated as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Education. Topics covered throughout the degree include secure software design, use of forensic tools to address current threats, hardening computer systems to prevent attack, analysis of criminal evidence, and cryptography.
The 100% online MS in Cybersecurity does not require any campus visits and can be completed in two years. Students are required to submit their GRE test scores with the application, however a waiver is available for qualified applicants. In addition, students must have a bachelor’s degree in computer engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, mathematics, physics, or a related discipline from an accredited 4-year university.
Other admission requirements include a minimum GPA of 3.0, as well as computer programming experience and a general knowledge of operating systems and network protocols. Courses run seven weeks each, and students may begin the program in the Fall 1 Term, Spring 1 Term, or the Summer Term.
Online MS in Cybersecurity courses are delivered asynchronously through the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS) with on-demand videos and interactive assignments as the main components. Students and faculty interact in learning communities through various multimedia tools including online discussion boards. Student resources include 24/7 technical support, admissions counseling, career services, and faculty support.
The Master of Science in Cybersecurity comprises 30 credits through ten courses that connect theory and problem solving into a comprehensive degree path. Courses include Introduction to Cybersecurity; Advanced Cybersecurity; System Hardening and Protection (DEFENSE); Pen Test and Reverse Engineering; Digital Forensics; The Smart Grid; Computer Networks; Secure Software Design; Applied Cryptography; and Search and Data Mining.
