The Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota (SMUMN) School of Education offers an online Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Learning Design & Technology designed for those involved in teaching and learning, whether in classroom, corporate, or professional development settings. Students learn to incorporate technology, creativity, exploration, and innovation into the learning environment.

This unique program was designed by PreK-12 educators, administrators, and industry-leading technology professionals to inspire creativity, innovation, and the desire for life-long learning in participating students and their students and clients. SMUMN also takes a holistic student-centered approach to teaching and learning that fosters personal growth and awareness.

The Learning Design & Technology courses focus on information research and evaluation, research-based learning and teaching, the classroom environment, educational psychology and theories of learning, creating meaningful learning opportunities, digital technology, interprofessional collaboration, the global community, and policy and systemic change.

The M.Ed. in Learning Design & Technology can be completed in as few as 20 months. This 30-credit online program does not require field experiences or campus visits. Start dates land in the fall, spring, and summer, and no work experience is required for admission. Students complete projects and group work to apply learned skills to real-world applications. Courses last eight weeks each, and students take one course at a time, with two each semester.

Applicants to the program must have a bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA of 2.75. No educational work experience is required for admission, the GRE is waived, and no campus visits are included in the program. No transfer credits are accepted unless the student has completed a related certificate at SMUMN. Admission materials include official transcripts, a written statement, two letters of recommendation, a written statement, and a current resume.

The Master of Education in Learning Design & Technology curriculum is delivered asynchronously through the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS). No set log-in times are required. Students collaborate and work on group projects through discussion boards and online web conferencing tools. Online student services include academic advising, online faculty office hours, career counseling, technical support, and financial aid advising.
