The George Washington University - Online BSHS in Clinical Operations and Healthcare Management & BSHS in Global Leadership in Disaster Response (GLDR) Degree Completion Programs
The School of Medicine and Health Sciences at The George Washington University (GW) offers an online Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences (BSHS) in Clinical Operations and Healthcare Management and a BSHS in Global Leadership in Disaster Response (GLDR). Both are degree completion programs requiring completion of at least 60 credits through GW and transfer of 45-60 credits from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning.
The BSHS in Clinical Operations and Healthcare Management was specifically designed to develop healthcare leaders who are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to manage healthcare operations and improve patient quality of care. Students learn: effective communication skills for leadership and teamwork; marketing concepts and organizational plans to effect change; and tools to effectively develop and implement complex programs.
The BSHS in Global Leadership in Disaster Response (GLDR) was specifically designed for active military personnel, civilians, and military veterans in the healthcare and emergency response sectors. Taken from the military training of Special Operations medics, the program focuses on civilian and military challenges occurring during natural disasters as well as man-made calamities. The program focuses on domestic and global delivery of humanitarian aid to victims of catastrophic events. Graduates will be able to: develop and implement disaster response plans; integrate the use of telemedicine; educate populations in disease prevention, hygiene, and health promotion during and after a crisis; and communicate effectively with all parties involved.
Both Health Sciences bachelor’s degrees are 100% online, requiring no campus visits. The degree completion programs require the student to complete a total of 120 credits, at least 60 of which must be completed through one of the GW online BSHS programs. The Clinical Operations and Healthcare Management can be completed in about two years with the transfer of 60 credits. The GLDR degree can be completed in about 3.5 years. Students may begin in spring, summer or fall and the programs are offered both full-time and part-time. Military tuition discounts may apply.
The online learning experience for the BSHS programs at GW is flexible and asynchronous, with courses broken up into weekly sections. GW uses the Blackboard Learning Management System (LMS), for which students complete an online orientation with self-paced modules, requiring about four hours to complete. Students have access to course syllabi, readings, videos, assignments, and assessments through Blackboard. Student services include 24/7 technical support, faculty support, career and library services, and admission and scheduling services.
