Johns Hopkins University - Part-Time Online Master of Science in Health Care Management
The Carey Business School at Johns Hopkins University offers an online Master of Science (MS) in Health Care Management. This degree is specifically designed for working professionals with at least two years relevant, professional work experience. Students learn to measure patient quality of care and healthcare access, improve healthcare industry productivity, navigate political and ethical landscapes in healthcare, and anticipate and address future issues in healthcare.
The MS in Health Care Management degree is almost completely online with one 3-day campus residency in Baltimore, MD, during the Business Communications course. The degree consists of 36 credits and can be completed part-time in just two years, however students may take up to five years to complete the program. Courses begin in the fall, spring and summer, and are 8 weeks in length.
JHU utilizes Blackboard and Adobe to deliver online classes and manage the student experience. Most classes are asynchronous, although some synchronous activities may be required. Students may need to install several programs onto their computers, therefore need full administrative access to their computer. Other requirements include a webcam, microphone, and up-to-date antivirus protection.
Courses for the MS in Health Care Management include 18 credits of business foundation courses, six foundational core credits, and 12 credits of electives. Business foundations courses include Accounting and Financial Reporting; Business Communication; Business Leadership and Human Values; Decision Models; Economics for Decision Making; Information Systems; Marketing Management; Operations Management; and Statistical Analysis. Foundational core courses include Frameworks for Analyzing Health Care Markets; Health Care Law and Regulation; and Health Care Financing and Financial Management.
As not all elective courses are offered online, students in the online program may choose from the following: Data Analytics; Biotechnology and Pharmaceuticals; Emerging Frontiers in Health Technologies and Strategies; Health Care Operations; Fundamentals of Health Care Systems; and Medical Devices and Diagnostics.
