Southern New Hampshire University - Online Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Administration

Southern New Hampshire University offers an online Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Administration degree with a general track or choice of 2 concentrations – health information management or patient safety and quality. The curriculum follows the principles established by the Association of University Programs in Health Administration (AUPHA). Topics covered include effective interpersonal communication, microeconomics, macroeconomics, organizational development, strategic planning, financial principles, information management and healthcare quality improvement. Graduates may seek employment in government healthcare, behavioral health, hospitals, pharmaceuticals, long-term care facilities or in private practice.

SNHU’s health information management concentration focuses on technology integration in the healthcare sector, information management systems and the healthcare IT infrastructure. The patient safety and quality concentration focuses on patient quality of care improvement including patient outcomes, cost of care and the continuum of care.

The online BS in Healthcare Administration’s 8-week terms begin 6 times per year in January, March, May, August, September and October. The program is 100% online with no campus visits required and the degree can be completed in 4 years on a full-time basis.

SNHU’s online BS in Healthcare Administration courses include weekly assignments, individual or group projects, papers, presentations and assessments. Students collaborate through online discussion boards, email, chat and phone. All readings, videos, assignments and requirements are laid out in a weekly format to allow students to better manage their time.

SNHU also offers SNHUconnect, an online student portal. Here students meet virtually with faculty, fellow students and alumni to collaborate on assignments and group projects, seek feedback and share ideas. In addition, students have access to an advisor, admission counselor, the writing center, tutoring and career services, IT solutions and library services.

The online BS in Healthcare Administration is comprised of 120 credits, including 42 credits of general degree requirements, 45 major course credits, 9 credits of major electives or a concentration and 24 credits of free electives.

General degree requirements may include courses like Introduction to Anatomy and Physiology, Statistics for Healthcare Professionals and Business Systems Analysis and Design. Major core courses may include Healthcare Strategic Management and Policy, Healthcare Quality Management, Principles of Epidemiology, Population Health and Cultural Competence, Ethical and Legal Considerations of Healthcare, Organizational Behavior and Healthcare Finance.

Required courses for the Health Information Management Concentration include Healthcare Data Management, Communication and Technologies and Healthcare IT Infrastructure and Network Management.

Required courses for the patient safety and quality concentration include courses like Patient Safety Systems and Strategies, Healthcare Regulatory Compliance and Accreditation and Performance Improvement Measurement and Methodologies.
